Livopleen Tablet by Devendra Ayurved Ashram

100 Tab: ₹60

Livopleen Tablet is targeted toward Yakrit and Pleeha Roga (hepatobiliary and splenic disorders), such as Yakritdalodara (hepatomegaly), Pleehodara (splenomegaly), Kamala (jaundice) and Pandu (anaemia associated with organomegaly).

Kutki, Kalmegh, Kasni, Giloy and Pleehari (Sarpunkha) — Ayurveda's leading liver herbs — are combined with two iron-rich bhasmas and processed in juices of Punarnava, aloe, Kakmachi, Neem bark and Bhringraj.

Used for

  • Sluggish liver (Yakrit-dourbalya)
  • Enlarged liver & spleen
  • Jaundice (Kamala)
  • Anaemia with liver trouble (Pandu)
  • Weak digestion & bloating

Why the liver and spleen struggle

In Ayurveda, Yakrit (liver) and Pleeha (spleen) are closely connected with Rakta (blood) and Pitta physiology. When the underlying balance is disturbed, this leads to liver parenchymal inflammation, impaired bile secretion and cellular injury.

In modern terms, fatty change, infections, alcohol and some medicines inflame liver cells and slow bile flow; digestion weakens, the liver and spleen can swell, and blood counts may fall.

Livopleen works through 4 main mechanisms

  • Hepatoprotective & Choleretic (Yakrit-Rakshaka & Pitta-Saraka) — Kutki's picrosides and Kalmegh's andrographolide protect liver cells from oxidative damage and increase bile flow in animal studies; in a meta-analysis of small trials, chicory (Kasni) lowered ALT and AST in fatty liver.
  • Splenoprotective (Pleehahara) — Pleehari — Sarpunkha, whose name means 'spleen-remover' — is Ayurveda's traditional herb for an enlarged spleen; it is hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory in experimental studies.
  • Haematinic & Rejuvenative (Raktavardhaka & Rasayana) — Kasees bhasma supplies iron — in a small randomised study it raised haemoglobin in iron-deficiency anaemia — and Giloy is Ayurveda's classic Rasayana.
  • Diuretic & Anti-oedematous (Shothahara & Mutrala) — Punarnava, used in processing, is diuretic and anti-inflammatory in experimental studies, easing fluid build-up.

Key ingredients

  • Kutki (Katuki) (Picrorhiza kurroa, rhizome) — 70 mg. A Himalayan bitter and one of Ayurveda's most-studied liver herbs. Its iridoid glycosides (picroside I and II, kutkoside) are hepatoprotective, choleretic and anti-inflammatory in experimental studies; Ayurveda uses it for Kamala (jaundice).
  • Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata, stem) — 50 mg. The 'king of bitters'. Its diterpene andrographolide protects liver cells by curbing oxidative stress and inflammation (NF-κB and Nrf2 pathways) and increased bile flow in animal studies — more potently than silymarin. Ayurveda uses it for Kamala and poor appetite.
  • Kasni (Chicory) (Cichorium intybus, root) — 50 mg. Chicory, a Unani and Ayurvedic liver herb rich in inulin, sesquiterpene lactones and phenolic acids. In a meta-analysis of five small trials in fatty liver disease, chicory lowered the liver enzymes ALT and AST.
  • Sarpunkha (Tephrosia purpurea, whole plant) — 40 mg. Traditionally used for an enlarged liver and spleen and in Ayurvedic liver preparations. Its flavonoids (quercetin, rutin) and triterpenoids are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and its extract lessened arsenic-induced liver damage in rats.
  • Giloy (Guduchi) (Tinospora cordifolia, stem) — 20 mg. A Rasayana for chronic fever and immunity. Its polysaccharides, alkaloids and diterpenoids are immunomodulatory, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory in experimental studies. Rare liver injury has been reported, possibly from mis-identified Tinospora species.
  • Kasees bhasma (calcined ferrous sulphate) — 100 mg. Green vitriol (ferrous sulphate) processed into an Ayurvedic iron preparation. In a small randomised study in iron-deficiency anaemia, Kasisa bhasma 125 mg three times a day for 30 days raised haemoglobin.
  • Swarna makshik bhasma (calcined chalcopyrite) — 20 mg. Chalcopyrite (copper–iron sulphide) processed into a fine oxide-rich ash. Ayurveda uses it for anaemia, weakness and Pitta disorders; studies so far characterise its composition and particle size rather than its clinical effects.
  • Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa, whole plant). Its name means 'renews the body'. Ayurveda uses it for swelling (Shotha), the kidneys and the liver; its rotenoids and flavonoids are diuretic, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective in experimental studies.
